The 4 Most Commonly Overlooked Areas in Skin Care

All of us principally focus on our faces when thinking about anti-aging measures, and our overall skin care. However, the 4 Most Commonly Overlooked Areas in Skin Care can reveal your age and skin health just as much as your eyes, neck, and forehead do.

Overlooked skin care spot #1: Your Hands

The tops of your hands can reveal your age like no where else because our hands are prone to experience the same external skin aging factors as our faces, plus the extra harsh wear and tear of things like dish washing, cleaning, sun exposure, too frequent washing, etc. Our hands are likely to develop age spots, wrinkles and sagging skin prematurely if left unprotected.

So, ALWAYS wear gloves when cleaning or using chemicals and ALWAYS put sunscreen on the tops of your hands when driving or going outdoors, I like Fermitif Hand Renewal Cream/3.4 oz. it is a little pricey, but a little goes a long way. I also use Silc Skin Hand Treatment every night at bedtime – this treatment contains medical grade silicone that treats wrinkles like they are scars, the science behind it really is interesting and it really does wonders for my hands.

Overlooked skin care spot #2: The Tops of Your Feet

The tops of your feet are especially vulnerable to skin damaging sun rays throughout the sandal-wearing seasons. However, even during the colder months the tops of your feet can also be damaged by the shoes and socks we wear, causing dry/rough skin, ingrown toe nails, corns, etc.

Always remember to put sunscreen on the top of your feet when they will be exposed. And, please buy properly fitting shoes and use all cotton socks. Moisturize your feet daily and take the time (even during the winter) to keep your toe nails trim and neat. If your feet ache, use an analgesic foot cream like Gehwol Blue 2.6 oz / 75 ml, it has rosemary, pine and lavender in it – which smells amazing and takes the pain of a long day on your feet away. You may not realize the damage you are causing when you are young, but trust me when I tell you, your older self will thank you later for taking good care of your feet.

Overlooked skin care spot #3: Your Elbows and Knees

Your elbows and knees, and the skin around them, are quick to show the signs of time with dryness, wrinkling, and sagging. The problem is a multi-part one, for starters, the skin in these areas are constantly being stretched and contracted which causes sagging. Then (as if that wasn’t enough) because these areas are always rubbing up against something—your clothes, your desk, your kitchen counter—dead skin tends to build up and get thick, rough, and discolored. And, activities that cause more pressure, like, kneeling a lot to garden, or, exercise causes low-grade inflammation that triggers hyper pigmentation.

Fight sagging skin by using products that contain proven ingredients like peptides, retinol, niacin and growth factors. I like Chantecaille Retinol Body Treatment and Clarins Extra-Firming Body Lotion is also a more affordable alternative. Now, treating discoloration and thickened skin caused by friction usually requires the use of Acids and Urea. Your regular body lotion can’t quite cut through the dead skin cells to repair cracked, sandpaper-y elbows and knees. For real results, upgrade to a formula that contains urea, a powerful humectant that simultaneously hydrates and loosens the intracellular protein holding dead skin in place. Once the skin has thinned back to normal, use products with AHAs of Glycolic Acids. I recommend using Udderly Smooth Extra Care Cream with 20% Urea, Replenishing, 8 Oz and The Method: Body Nourish Cream With Hylypex and 10% Glycolic Acid/11 oz.. For skin that has hyper pigmentation due to inflammation use a 1% Hydrocortisone Cream like Cortizone 10 Maximum Strength 1% Hydrocortisone Easy Relief Applicator with Healing Aloe, 1.25oz 2x a day for 2 weeks and then use an AHA or Glycolic Cream until discoloration is gone.

Overlooked skin care spot #4: Your Vagina

Yes, you read that correctly. Your vagina. You are overlooking her and not giving her all the love she needs. Your vagina can either be your best friend when she’s happy, or she could make you feel like she’s plotting your demise when she is not happy. So for goodness sake, stay in her good graces by following these best practices.

Lets talk about lube. Why are you refusing it? If you are not, why are you using lube that has chemicals in it? Your vagina has some of the thinnest and most sensitive skin on your entire body. This is one area where using a healthy, chemical free product is definitely a must. I discovered Divine Times Intimate Oil by Blue Monarch and I have definitely noticed a difference. I no longer experience any irritation or discomfort during, or after sex. And, I love that  Divine Times Intimate Oil is Vegan, cruelty-free, alcohol-free, contains no petroleum, no parabens, no silicones, no sulfates, no synthetics AND no artificial fragrance or color. It is also food-grade ingredients 😉
