Kokie Professional (pronounced Co-Key) is a relatively new brand, founded in 2015 in Maryland by Chris Chon who also created SinfulColors for Mirage Cosmetics. In 2011, Revlon bought out Mirage, and, in turn in 2015, Chris Chon (no longer with Mirage) founded Kokie Cosmetics.
In the past few months I have purchased more than 10 nail polish colors and have used each color a minimum of 3x each for the purposes of this review, and, my findings are a bit surprising to me.
Why was I surprised? Well, first, let’s talk about where to find Kokie Professional and how much it costs. You can buy Kokie Professional at Walmart by clicking here: Kokie Professional Nail Polish, 0.54 fl oz and the polish runs between $4-$7 per bottle, VERY affordable for the quality and color selection available!
The nail polish is available in glitter, metallic, satin and matte finishes and is 3-Free. This means that the nail polish is free of what is known as the “Toxic Trio”, which are Dibutyl Phthalate, Formaldehyde, and Toluene. Also, this brand is Cruelty-Free (yay!)
The brand claims that the wear expectation is 5 days, however, I found that if I was careful I could go chip and peel free for 7 days. On the other hand, if I was not being careful, i.e., washing too many dishes, doing heavy cleaning or swimming too long it would last as little as 2 days before I started to see peeling and chipping. In all fairness though, I have found the same result with every brand of nail polish that I have tested. Nothing will last under those conditions.
I think that the brush is thin and easy to use, however, some colors need 3 coats while others only need 2. I tested out doing a graphic manicure to see how easy it would be to work with and how well it would perform and I had no issues with it at all. I did use my own thin brushes to create the design, and did not use the brush that came with the polish as it was too thick for this look on the left.
I think the packaging is quite cute and I wondered what the Elephant was all about – I mean, what do Elephants have to do with cosmetics? Here is what the brand says on their website, “Did you know that Kokie derives from the Korean word for elephant? The elephant represents power, wisdom, strength, and loyalty – just a few of the things that we think are beautiful, too.”
Overall, I think Kokie Professional Nail Polish is great because it is affordable, has good staying power and a wonderful selection of colors to chose from.
